OCR description
A burglar stole two laptop computers from the covered entity’s (CE) office. One of the stolen laptops contained the protected health information (PHI) of 542 individuals that included first and last names and eyeglass prescriptions. The CE provided breach notification to HHS, affected individuals, and the media. Following the breach, the CE purchased new laptops that are password protected with automatic shut-off features, and also retrained staff on security. OCR obtained documentation that the CE implemented the corrective actions it took in this matter.
