OCR description
The covered entity (CE), Emory Healthcare, was the subject of a ransomware attack that affected the protected health information (PHI) of 79,930 individuals. Th PHI involved included names, dates of birth, medical record numbers, dates of service, and other treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and posted substitute notice on its website. As a result of this incident, the CE implemented additional administrative and technical safeguards to ensure that similar incidents do not recur. OCR provided the CE with technical assistance regarding the HIPAA Security Rule.
