Ransom Memorial Hospital

The covered entity (CE), Ransom Memorial Hospital, reported that an employee was the victim of an email phishing scheme that affected the protected health information (PHI) of 16,366 individuals. The PHI involved included names, dates of birth, Social Security and drivers’ license numbers, addresses, birthdates, diagnoses, medications, lab results, and financial information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, and the media. In its mitigation efforts, the CE implemented additional administrative, technical, and security safeguards to better protect its PHI. In addition, the CE retrained its workforce members on email security precautions.
