Timothee T. Wilkin, D.O.

The covered entity (CE), the practice of Timothee T. Wilkin, D.O., P.A., was the victim of a ransomware attack that affected the electronic protected health information (ePHI) of 15,113 individuals. The ePHI involved included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, health insurance information, claims data, clinical diagnoses, lab results, medications prescribed, and other treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and provided complimentary identity and credit monitoring services to all affected individuals. In response to the breach, the CE implemented additional technical and security safeguards to better protect its ePHI. In addition, the CE contracted with a third-party vendor for the provision of cloud-based electronic medical record storage/maintenance services. OCR obtained assurances that the CE implemented the corrective actions noted.
