Truman Medical Center, Incorporated

Truman Medical Center, Inc., the covered entity (CE), reported that an employee’s vehicle was burglarized and a laptop was stolen. This breach affected approximately 112,227 individuals and the protected health information (PHI) involved included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, addresses, diagnoses/conditions, and medication information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and local law enforcement. The CE also provided affected individuals with complimentary identity theft protection services. In its mitigation efforts, the CE sanctioned the responsible employee and implemented additional administrative and technical safeguards and retrained its staff. OCR obtained assurances that the CE implemented the corrective actions noted.
