Children’s Hope Alliance

The covered entity (CE), Children’s Hope Alliance, reported that an unencrypted laptop containing the electronic protected health information (ePHI) of 1,002 individuals, was stolen from an employee’s vehicle. The ePHI involved included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, clinical information, and health insurance information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, and the media. In response to the breach, the CE sanctioned the responsible employee and implemented additional administrative safeguards to better protect its sensitive data.
