Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago

The Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, the covered entity (CE), reported that an employee impermissibly accessed the protected health information (PHI) of 4,138 patients. The PHI involved included names, addresses, dates of birth, diagnoses/conditions, lab results, and medication information. As a result of the breach, the CE implemented additional administrative and technical safeguards to better protect its data. The CE also trained its staff on the importance of patient privacy and the rights of patients under the HIPAA Privacy Rule. OCR obtained assurances that the CE implemented the corrective actions noted.
