OCR description
The covered entity (CE), North Texas Institute of Neurology and Headache, reported that a laptop computer containing the protected health information (PHI) of 500 individuals was stolen from an employee’s vehicle. The CE notified HHS and affected individuals. In its mitigation efforts, the CE implemented additional technical safeguards to better protect sensitive data. OCR provided technical assistance regarding the HIPAA Rules.
After filing the breach report, the CE reported that the laptop was password protected and encrypted.
