Freeport Regional Health Care Foundation

The covered entity (CE), Freeport Regional Health Care Foundation, reported that several employees were the victims of an email phishing scheme that affected the protected health information (PHI) of 80,795 individuals. The PHI involved included names, dates of birth, health insurance information, Social Security numbers, and other treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, and the media. In its mitigation efforts, the CE implemented additional administrative, technical, and security safeguards to better protect its PHI. The CE retrained its workforce members on email security.
