OCR description
The business associate (BA), Bricker & Eckler, LLP, reported that it was the victim of a ransomware attack that compromised the protected health information (PHI) of 420,532 individuals. The PHI involved includes names, dates of birth, addresses, drivers’ license information, and Social Security numbers. The BA notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and provided substitute notice. In its mitigation efforts, the BA strengthened its administrative and technical safeguards to better protect its PHI. OCR provided technical assistance regarding the HIPAA Security Rule.
