OCR description
The covered entity (CE), Cancer Care Centers, reported that its business associate (BA) experienced a ransomware attack that affected the electronic protected health information (ePHI) of 17,809 individuals. The ePHI involved included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, diagnoses, prescription information, and other treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, and the media. The CE also provided complimentary credit monitoring services. In response to the breach, the CE strengthened its security safeguards to better protect its ePHI.
