OCR description
Dr. Elizabeth Ortof reported that her laptop was stolen from her office. The laptop contained the electronic protected health information (ePHI) of 5,000 individuals. The ePHI involved included names, lab results, medications prescribed, and other treatment information. During the course of the investigation, OCR determined that Dr. Ortof is not a covered entity as defined by the HIPAA Privacy Rule and subsequently closed its investigation.
