OCR description
The covered entity (CE), First Step of Sarasota, reported that it experienced a ransomware attack that affected the protected health information (PHI) of 52,500 individuals. The PHI involved included names, addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, Social Security numbers, and other treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and posted substitute notice its website. In response to the breach, the CE implemented additional technical safeguards.
