OCR description
The covered entity (CE), Laboratorio Clínico Caparros, reported that it was the victim of a ransomware attack affecting the protected health information (PHI) of 500 individuals. The PHI involved included names, dates of birth, addresses, health insurance information, and other treatment information. The CE notified HHS and the affected individuals. In response to the breach, the CE implemented additional technical safeguards, hired a new information technology company, and retrained its staff on cybersecurity.
