OCR description
The covered entity (CE), The Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta, reported that employees experienced an email phishing attack affecting the protected health information (PHI) of 2,820 individuals. The PHI involved included names, addresses, drivers’ license numbers, dates of birth, and other treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and provided substitute notice. Following the breach, the CE implemented additional technical safeguards and retrained its employees. OCR provided technical assistance to the CE regarding the notification requirements under the HIPAA Breach Notification Rule.
