OCR description
The business associate (BA), Clinivate, reported that it experienced a ransomware attack affecting the protected health information (PHI) of 77,652 individuals. The PHI involved included names, addresses, dates of birth, drivers’ license and Social Security numbers, claims information, diagnoses, lab results, medications prescribed, and other treatment information. The BA notified HHS, affected individuals, and the media. In response to the breach, the BA implemented additional technical safeguards, provided complimentary credit monitoring services, and retrained its employees. OCR provided technical assistance to the BA regarding the HIPAA Rules.
