Bayshore Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance, Inc.

The covered entity (CE), Bay Shore Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance, reported that several employees were the subjects of an email phishing scheme that compromised the protected health information (PHI) of 679 individuals. The PHI involved included names, addresses, birthdates, Social Security numbers, diagnoses, medications, and other treatment information. The hacker used financial information to fraudulently obtain funds from the CE. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, local law enforcement, and the FBI. The CE implemented additional administrative, technical, and security safeguards to better protect PHI.
