Webber Chiropractic Sports Clinic, the covered entity (CE), reported that it experienced a ransomware attack that compromised the protected health information (PHI) of 1,695 individuals. The PHI involved included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security and drivers’ license numbers, health insurance information, claims and financial information, medications, diagnoses, and additional treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and posted substitute notice on its website. As a result of OCR’s investigation, the CE implemented additional administrative, technical, and security safeguards to better protect its sensitive data.
