East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine, a member of the ECU Health affiliated covered entity

The covered entity (CE), East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine, reported that certain files on its network that contained the protected health information (PHI) of 19,085 individuals were inadvertently made accessible to its students, employees and certain East Carolina University Health clinicians. The PHI involved included names, birthdates, diagnoses, financial and claims information, and other treatment information. The CE notified HHS, the affected individuals, and the media. In response to the breach, the CE implemented additional administrative and technical safeguards to better protect PHI.
