OCR description
Weirton Medical Center, the covered entity (CE), reported that it experienced a ransomware attack that affected the protected health information (PHI) of approximately 26,793 individuals. The PHI involved included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, health insurance information, and claims and treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and posted substitute notice on its website. The CE implemented additional technical safeguards to better protect PHI.
