OCR description
The covered entity (CE), Easterseals Rehabilitation Center Evansville, reported that it experienced a cyberattack that compromised the protected health information (PHI) of 8,394 individuals. The PHI involved names, addresses, dates of birth, drivers’ license numbers, social security numbers, diagnoses/conditions, lab results, medications, and other treatment information. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, and the media. In its mitigation efforts, the CE enhanced its access controls and its threat detection solutions to better protect its PHI. OCR provided technical assistance to the CE regarding the HIPAA Rules.
