OCR description
The business associate (BA), American Addiction Centers, Inc., reported that its business associate (BA) experienced a cyber-attack that affected the protected health information (PHI) of 410,747 individuals. The PHI involved included clinical, demographic, and financial information. The BA notified the affected covered entities, individuals, the media, the HHS Secretary, and substitute notice was published on each covered entity’s website. In response to the breach, the BA provided complimentary credit monitoring services to the affected individuals, implemented additional administrative, technical, and security safeguards, and retrained workforce members to better protect PHI.
