CVE-2024-12084Rsync: heap buffer overflow in rsync due to improper checksum length handling

Updated under an hour ago ()

Does this affect you?

It affects Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 and 8 other products. Add what you run to find out whether that includes you.

No exploitation reported and no EPSS estimate yet.

A heap-based buffer overflow flaw was found in the rsync daemon. This issue is due to improper handling of attacker-controlled checksum lengths (s2length) in the code. When MAX_DIGEST_LEN exceeds the fixed SUM_LENGTH (16 bytes), an attacker can write out of bounds in the sum2 buffer.

The CVE record is authoritative. Products marked “from the name” were identified from the CNA's free-text names, not a CPE, and are matched less certainly. This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.
